Working with Jason Kuehn, who produced my previous CD, BadMonkey, was such a joy, I decided to fully produce some new songs and release them as an EP. Jay was working for Studio 7 in St. Clair Shores, so we began recording there. I was able to pull together a studio band that included E.J. on bass and backup vocals, Robert Tye (Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Liz Larin Band, Detroit jazz legend) on lead guitars, Vic Spicer from Detroit's "The Howards" and "The Chris McCall band" on drums along with Jay who handled the keys. And on the track, "Hurt You", Stewart Francke ( who over the last few years has won numerous Detroit Music Awards, including Best Artist, Best Songwriter, Best Album) sang backup vocals, helping me to craft a very satisfying pop song. The end result with this talented bunch is my finest recorded effort to date.

Like many of my songs, they deal with the human element in love and life and the effect our decisions have in our relationships. "Back to Me" is about a woman who wants to get back together with her boyfriend after a bad breakup. "Moments" is about our love of celebrity and the effect it has on privacy. "Try" is how fear can hold someone back from love. "Decide"; is about a couple that breaks up and gets back together again a lot. "Seriously" is about how a friend can save someone from his own personal demons. "Hurt You" is about the love a man has for his wife and his commitment to protecting her.

Thus we have "Love & Consequence." A personal take on the ups and downs of passion, pride and relationships. I am so proud of these songs and the way that these tracks turned out. I sincerely hope that you enjoy them half as much as I did recording them

Back To Me

Back to Me Music and lyrics: R Nease

lie in the city, lie in the night
cover your inspiration
with perfume on the bedroom light
and your cigarette is burning,
smoke circles round your eyes
tearing up the photograph
you took of me last night

You’d go back in time, to get back to me
You’d cross any line, to get back to me
.
A piece of your attraction
laying bare on your bed
there’s a part of your distraction
as I sat inside your head
Tryin’ to fix another heartache
Now she’s broke down on the road
Swears that she never caught a break
She never meant to go

You’d go back in time, to get back to me
You’d cross any line, to get back to me

I haven’t gone where I intended to go,
but I ended up where I intended to be
No need to beat yourself up about it
If you want,  you can call me……just call me…..

You’d go back in time, to get back to me
You’d cross any line, to get back to me

Moment   Words/music-R Nease

Broken glass, I’m bleeding
Not enough to know I’m needing
Time to think about it all

You looked downtown
Near the place where I used to play
For beers and dream of living high

I could,      go to
Hell for all you knew
Taking        pictures
You think that makes you cool

You never took it back
You gave me a heart attack
Your camera captures these moments
Covered in moments

You can serve a master
Or find your own way through
the things that get inside your mind

You can follow someone
Who will tell you what to do
With all your time and money spent

I could,     be damned
For acting like a fool
Taking        pictures
You think that makes you cool

You never took it back
You gave me a heart attack
Your camera captures these moments
Covered in moments

Capture a moment
Covered in moments
Capture a moment
Covered in moments

You never took it back
You gave me a heart attack
Your camera captures these moments
Covered in moments

3. Try Play
Try

Try  music and lyrics: R Nease

In the middle of a thought   open doors, open hands
Am I the only one who sees
There’s a cold white noise

<><>Leaving little choice
Is this all inside of me

In a little kiss     and the things we missed     you’d rather not try
I hear you say
There’s a better way     and a better day     it doesn’t feel right
I hear you

OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know
OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know

Crippled by the times    And a simple mind
she just wants to leave
And she just wants a taste    of a human face
Not live on her knees

I bet you knew it’d come,
but you just played it dumb
It’s safer that way,
I hear you
The price you’d pay
For  a better way
it doesn’t feel right
to turn away

OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know
OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know

Locked in the luner moon
Give it back, there’s lots of room
On track to be the all time loser
This lady in cement
That’s not what I meant
Kick it down the stairs, before it’s over

OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know
OOOO- if you’ve don’t try, how you gonna know

4. Decide Play
Decide

Decide        music and lyrics: R Nease

Sometimes, especially when you talk
I get the feeling you don’t understand me
So I so  get mad- and I walk the walk
But your smile is so damn mystifying

I don’t want it any more
So decide what you want when you’re sure

I know, when you knock on the door
Tells me that you need to see me just one time, and I..
Want- open up the door
But there’s a hand on my shoulder pleading with me

I don’t want it any more
So decide what you want when you’re sure
You can’t hide behind leather and gold
Just decide

A gentle touch.          Fair lady, by your leave;
I come by now,          to give and to receive.
Like one of two           contending in a prize,
Falling back into other people's eyes

I don’t want it any more
So decide what you want when you’re sure
You can’t hide behind leather and gold
Just decide
Just decide
Just decide

5. Seriously Play
Seriously

Seriously    R Nease

Ever since I was born
It seems a long time to me
Life has been like a thunderstorm
Life has been like a diamond in the sea
You told me a week ago, that things had better change
Do you like this new me, I’m not used to this strange

You take me so seriously
I’m just a guy, getting by, like you
Don’t take me so seriously
Hiding in a hurricane
Looking for a port in the storm

Jimmy Walker in the morning
And vodka at night
I don’t know what I’m doing anymore
Well, maybe you’re wrong but I think that maybe you’re right

You told me a week ago, careful not to scream
Wake me up from this dead zone, my heart is not what it seems

You take me so seriously
I’m just a guy, getting by, like you
Don’t take me so seriously
Hiding in a hurricane
Looking for a port in the storm

I don’t want to lose you
The only witness to it all
Hold me back from this emptiness
Before I fall

You take me so seriously
I’m just a guy, getting by, like you
Don’t take me so seriously
Hiding in a hurricane
Looking for a port in the storm

A song about a man I know, who lost his way with drink. But somehow, another reached out to help him.

6. Hurt You Play
Hurt You

Hurt You music and lyrics: R Nease

Conscience has its consequence so little seems to fit
In my mad, mad love I never would commit
But I fell inside the final accident
Held by eyes gave in to my descent

You and I
We’re gonna be alright
Nobody’s gonna hurt you, nobody’s gonna hurt you
Cause I want, what you want for me
Nobody’s gonna hurt you, nobody’s gonna hurt you

She’d walk in the room, looks at the pieces on the floor
Looks like the Roman ruins, looks like love was there before
She can hide building bricks inside her mind
Push it aside sway the grand design

You and I
We’re gonna be alright
Nobody’s gonna hurt you, nobody’s gonna hurt you
Cause I want, what you want for me
Nobody’s gonna hurt you, nobody’s gonna hurt you

"Rick Nease has crafted a thoroughly professional, emotionally satisfying set of six pop songs that sounds better than just about anything being played in Toledo on the radio right now."
